In desperate need of sewing advice...

Right, again it's been almost three months since I've shown my face here on deviantART :S I'll get around to unanswered notes and comments and such soon, I promise.

Getting right to the point, I need a new sewing machine and am in desperate need of advice. I'm starting my degree in costume design this september and have been sewing my own clothing for the past few years so I think it's high time for an upgrade. I've been trying to sort through the jungle of possibilities on the net but there are so many different models with so many different functions and prices that I have no idea where to start.

I know that a lot of my watchers sew so do you any of you have any particular advice or experiences you could share? Anything would be helpful!
