PotC Nightgown

Description

This is my version of the nightgown worn by Elizabeth Swann in the first Pirates movie. I found this site rather helpful in drafting the pattern and as far as reference images go. Some of the changes to the costume were deliberate--such as the train and the ruffles at the hem. Others were due to the fact that some things weren't clearly visible in the reference images. And obviously I don't have Keira Knightley's figure so the fit is a bit different ;)
Now technically this is a costume, but as I intended it for regular everyday, or much rather every night, wear I put it in the "clothing" category.
I've secretly been wanting to make this nightgown for the longest time, but I just couldn't find the right fabric! Then last week I finally found this lovely woven-striped emboidered cotton voile which was (though not an exact match) absolutely perfect! Except for the fact that there were silver metallic threads in every stripe...so after sewing it all together I spent several days removing all those threads with tweezers :ohmygod: and am very pleased to say that without them it looks much better :D I also felt that the hem looked rather plain without ruffles, but after hemming and gathering 10 Meters of them, I have come to the conclusion that ruffles are most definitely overrated. ;)
It is gathered at the front under the bust and closes in the back with ten mother of pearl buttons. I'll probably post some detail shots in a couple of days.
I figured that since this was a costume in PotC it should be photographed by the sea, and though it's obviously not the caribbean, I think the Baltic Sea is rather nice too ;)
Oh yes and thank you very much to :iconweuler: for taking these wonderful pictures :)

That is utterly gorgeous!  And nicely shown-off by you too!
